This week’s addition to The Bookshelf is a little different from previous entries.  Mostly because I wanted to post about something that wasn’t a graphic novel, but also because I never picked up anything that I really wanted to post about.

I just finished reading The Children of Hurin, the latest book from JRR Tolkien and Christopher Tolkien. The story takes place several thousand years prior to The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings, and has been published in part in other works by Tolkien.

I enjoyed reading the book, but as I read through it, I was well aware that most people probably wouldn’t enjoy it as much as I did.  So unless you are a fan of Tolkien, I’d probably stay clear of this one.  The story was interesting, but Tolkien’s writing style isn’t the most accessible.

Also, it has some awesome artwork by Alan Lee!
